Jordan Lesatele, known in the industry as BarbaJordz, is a 25-year-old barber based in Perth, Western Australia. Of Samoan descent and raised in West Auckland, New Zealand, his journey in barbering began eight years ago, cutting friends and family in a garage—like many in the craft’s grassroots beginnings. Today, that journey has grown into a career spanning business ownership, competition work, and education.
Jordan currently operates as a rent-a-chair barber at Origin Barbers while also working part-time as a Trainer and Assessor at Taylorweir School of Hairdressing and Barbering.
Inspired by Global Influence
Jordan’s winning freestyle look at The Big Barber Bash Perth was inspired by a mix of American and UK barbers, along with hairdressers he follows through social media. Drawing on these influences, he set out to create a style that balanced creativity with strong technical execution.
For him, the aim was to go beyond a standard competition cut.
“I decided to piece together a hairstyle that speaks creativity while utilising my technical skills into a masterpiece that really stood out, not just to the judges but the rest of the audience,” he said.
Competing in Front of a Home Crowd
While Jordan has competed before, returning to the stage at The Big Barber Bash Perth brought a new level of intensity.
“Nerve-racking” he said. “It wasn’t my first competition, but it was definitely the most challenging because it was my first time competing in a while—especially in front of a home crowd.”
Despite the pressure, he praised the event for its role in elevating the local barbering scene.
“Massive shoutout to the Big Barber Bash team for organising it because there is so much talent here in Perth, and because of you guys, barbers wouldn’t have the chance to network and expose themselves to their full potential.”

A Win That Goes Beyond the Trophy
Winning the Perth Freestyle competition meant more to Jordan than just taking home a title. For him, it marked a personal and professional milestone.
“It means so much more than just winning a trophy and a title,” he shared. “It was a chance to prove to myself that I’ve reached a different level in my career where I can really inspire future barbers on the big stage.”
The experience also reignited his motivation to rebuild his online presence and reconnect with the wider barbering community.
“The energy was uplifting and really sparked that confidence back in me to get my social media portfolio back up and start connecting with like-minded individuals.”
What’s Next
Looking ahead, Jordan is focused on both growth and giving back.
“I guess at this point a holiday would be great haha,” he said. “But I definitely want to keep educating, reach out to more barbers around Australia, especially back home in New Zealand. The goal is to keep growing my skills and keep giving back to the community.”
From garage cuts in West Auckland to winning the Freestyle competition at The Big Barber Bash Perth, BarbaJordz continues to build a career defined by creativity, education, and contribution to the craft.
