Melbourne-based barber Pear Panuka has taken out the Freestyle competition category at 2026 The Big Barber Bash, delivering a standout performance in one of the night’s most creative and competitive sections.
Working at VZNRY in Melbourne, Pear has been in the industry for six years, building craft through modern fades, precision scissor work and tailored restyles. Pear’s approach is all about consistency, detail and clean execution.
Pear’s winning look drew inspiration from subculture cuts, blending raw, underground influence with a reverse modern fade. The idea was to keep the structure controlled and refined, while still holding onto texture and edge.
“It was about balancing contrast,” Pear said. “Something strong and expressive, but still clean and structured with a modern finish.”
Competing live at The Big Barber Bash brought a different level of pressure. With the clock running and other skilled barbers on stage, focus was everything.
“It’s high pressure, high energy. You’ve got to stay locked in, but it’s also really inspiring being around that level of talent.”
For Pear, the win is a meaningful career moment, reinforcing the importance of consistency and patience.
“It’s a reminder that attention to detail and staying consistent really do build something over time. It just pushes me to keep raising my standard.”
Looking ahead, Pear is focused on continuing to compete, refining craft, and growing within the industry.
“Long-term, I’m working towards creating my own space and brand to bring my vision of barbering to life,” said Pear.
